Laura Young is a staff attorney in the Special Projects program at The Advocates for Human Rights. She holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and a Master of Public Health from Emory University. Young’s work at The Advocates currently focuses on transitional justice in Africa, specifically how transitional processes interact with and impact diaspora groups as well as other marginalized communities. Prior to joining The Advocates, Young worked at the Mexican Capital Legal Assistance Project and served as a judicial clerk for the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Before entering the law, Young worked in the field of public health as a researcher, community educator, and program evaluation specialist. Young was employed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, private health education consulting firms, and a community-based domestic violence organization.
