Local experts and representatives of the business community will discuss the contributions that immigrants make to our local economy and the complexities of this with respect to business. Speakers will address the challenges and opportunities posed by our current labor market in operating a business as it relates to immigration, Latino and African immigrant entrepreneurship and the need for sound immigration policies and reform. Laura J. Danielson, chair of the Immigration Department at Fredrikson & Byron, will moderate the discussion.
James J. Graves is the President and CEO of Graves Hospitality, a Minneapolis-based real estate development and management company he founded in 1979.
Rafael Ortiz is a lawyer and Executive Director of HACER (Hispanic Advocacy and Community Empowerment through Research) a community-based research organization.
Hussein Samatar is the founder and Executive Director of the African Development Center, a non-profit working within the African communities in Minnesota to start and sustain businesses, build assets, and promote community reinvestment.
Laura J. Danielson has been an immigration lawyer since 1989 and is the chair of the Immigration Department at Fredrikson & Byron.
This immigration speaker series will be held on June 16, 2006 as the final lecture in a three-part series on immigration in America. Lectures are free and open to the public with advance registration. Lunch will be provided for those who pre-register. CLE credit will not be requested for this event.
