Infant mortality, the death of children before 1 year of age, is a global problem.  This lecture will examine the causes of infant mortality, historical trends in infant mortality rates, and variations on those rates between the United States and other developed countries, and developing nations. The presentation will also include a discussion of the ways in which infant mortality has been addressed in countries around the world.

 

Biographical Information

 

Megan Brown is a Research Associate with Children’s Defense Fund Minnesota.  She prepares numerous research publications for the organization, including the KIDSCOUNT Data Book on the well-being of Minnesota children and Family Support Snapshots on public programs.  Prior to working with CDF-MN, she worked for Growth & Justice in St. Paul and taught in New Orleans, LA as a member of the Teach for America Program.  Megan has a Master of Public Policy from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and received her undergraduate degree in History from Washington University in St. Louis.
