This session introduces participants to the basics of asylum law and ways in which the United States offers protection to victims of human rights abuses. Participants will learn about the international treaties and policies underlying the asylum system. The session will focus on the specific elements of an asylum claim, including a step-by-step discussion of eligibility for asylum in the United States. This session also addresses other forms of humanitarian relief such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
